Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik on his visit to Bargarh district inaugurated several welfare projects in Padampur, Jharkhand and Paikmal, including financial assistance of Rs 1.23 crore to SHGs in the area.

To the delight of residents of Padampur in Odisha’s Bargarh district, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday said the town would get district status within a year. “I had announced about Padampur district last December. This should be done within a year,” he said.

Patnaik made the announcement while addressing a public meeting during his tour of Padampur assembly constituency. He also visited Jharbandh and Paikmal in Bargarh district.

Apart from the announcement, the Chief Minister inaugurated several welfare projects in the area. He distributed financial assistance of Rs 1.23 crore to Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the area.

“Our mothers are present in large numbers in today’s meeting. He is doing well in the mission force. Today, Rs 1.23 crore is being given to the girls here. I hope you will become good entrepreneurs with this money,” said Patnaik.

He said: “Last time I announced something for the Padampur constituency, out of that the Paikmal Primary Health Center has been converted into a Community Health Center. The work of Dachkra dam has started. Land has been identified for 133/11 KV substation. I believe in action, not words.

Addressing a gathering at Paikmal, the CM said, “I have sanctioned Rs 64 crore for the development of your area. You met me during the last by-election. You have proposed me the development of every panchayat, every NAC and every ward. I am happy that this money has been sanctioned on the basis of that proposal. Sanctioning funds on the basis of people’s proposals is the first time in the history of Odisha. I am sure this will help in the development of the region.

In a veiled reference to Union ministers, Patnaik said that during the bypolls, they had visited Padampur and promised a railway project, subsidy on kendu leaves, crop insurance and other issues.

He said, “I request Nrisinghanath that the Union minister remembers such assurances.”

A working committee demanding district status for Padampur met Patnaik in November 2022 at his residence in Bhubaneswar. After their discussion, he had said that the Chief Minister had assured him of giving district status to Padampur subdivision of Bargarh by December 31, 2023.
