Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Launches FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Trophy Tour in Bhubaneswar

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday launched the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s Trophy Tour World Cup 2023 in Bhubaneswar with the handing over of the Hockey Trophy India President Dilip Tirkey

Wishing the trophy tour a grand success, Chief Minister Patnaik said, “I am hopeful that the Hockey Men’s World Cup Trophy Tour will build excitement for the World Cup across India. We will host 16 teams and matches will be played in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.”

He said it would be a memorable World Cup for the teams and the fans.

Odisha Sports and Youth Services Minister Tusharkanti Behera, Hockey India General Secretary Bholanath Singh, State Sports Secretary R.K. Vinil Krishna, Hockey India Executive Director Srivastava along with officials and hockey players were present.

The trophy will travel to 13 states and one union territory before returning to Odisha on December 25, thus giving fans and the public a chance to engage with the coveted trophy before the winning team lifts it.

Over the next 21 days, the trophy will travel to West Bengal, Manipur, Assam, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, New Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh.

On its return to Odisha, the Hockey Men’s World Cup trophy will tour all the districts. Officials said the trophy would also visit 17 blocks of Sundergarh district, which is famous for being the cradle of hockey.

He said that the last leg of the tour will be held in Rourkela and finally return to Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar where the final will be played on January 29, 2023.
