Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra, Director General of Police Abhay, Chief Administrator of Jagannath Temple Krishna Kumar, Puri District Collector Samarth Verma, SP Kanwar Vishal Singh attended the virtual meeting. Three ministers, including Law Minister Pratap Jena, who attended the meeting, reached Puri and took stock of the arrangements.
Seeking the blessings of the gods for the smooth conduct of the Rath Yatra, Naveen said the threat of COVID has not averted even though the infection rate has come down in the second wave. Naveen urged the devotees to stay in their homes during the pandemic and watch the Rath Yatra live on TV. “Just as the sevaks and residents of Puri extended their support last year, we expect the same from them this year as well,” Naveen said.
In the meeting, Health Minister Naba Kishore Das told that Kovid testing and vaccination centers have been set up in Puri for the servicemen. Only those (servants and government employees), who test negative for COVID-19, will be allowed to participate in the Rath Yatra. Temporary First Aid Centers will be set up on Grand Road for servicemen and government employees.
Abhay said that adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure a peaceful Rath Yatra. Police said that they will strictly enforce the COVID safety protocol as well as Section 144 of CrPC in Puri city to prevent crowding of devotees during the festival.
