BHUBANESWAR: Considering the risk of non-COVID patients accessing medical facilities in hospitals, amid the rise in coronavirus cases, Orissa The government has allowed telemedicine service to be activated for them. The state government on Thursday issued an order asking telemedicine platforms to provide remote medical assistance to the needy.
“The current COVID-19 situation has posed a major challenge to the access of patients to hospitals for general health care. Keeping in view the situation, telemedicine centers in medical colleges and other hospitals should be set up effectively and proactively. It has been decided to establish,” the notification said.
Telemedicine service will be available in SCB Medical College and Hospital In Cuttack, MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, VIMSAR, Burla, Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Pediatrics in Cuttack, round the clock and staff should be arranged accordingly.
The service will be available at four new medical colleges and hospitals in Balasore, Baripada, Bolangir and Koraput as well as Capital Hospital and Hospitals in Bhubaneswar. Rourkela General Hospital (RGH) from 8 am to 5 pm.
Telemedicine service will be available in PHC as per rules OPD This timing is from 8 am to 12 noon and from 4 pm to 6 pm.
In another directive, the health department asked the hospital authorities to ensure social distancing, prevention of infection among healthcare workers, avoiding non-essential admissions and performing only emergency surgeries with universal precautions.
In patient department (IPD), only one attendant is allowed for critical patients and no attendant for ambulatory patients. In outpatient departments (OPDs), medical officers should not advise frequent visits of patients when not required, it said.
Media should not be allowed to enter OPDs or IPDs, and dedicated fever clinics, isolation wards and testing facilities should be set up, orders issued by the Directorate of Health Services to the superintendents of all medical colleges and hospitals, Rajdhani Hospital Bhubaneswar, RGH and Chief District Medical Officers and Public Health Officers said.
