Tim Southee took the cricketing world by storm on Sunday by breaking one of the batting records of legendary wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni.

New Zealand’s Test captain Tim Southee is widely known for his bowling exploits. However, on Sunday, he took the cricketing world by storm by breaking one of the batting records of legendary wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni. The Kiwi fast bowler achieved this feat on the third day of the ongoing second Test against England in Wellington.

On Saturday, Southee hammered England pacer Stuart Broad for a massive six, taking his tally of sixes to 78 – equaling Dhoni’s record in the longest format of the game. During his innings, South hit two sixes and remained unbeaten at stumps after scoring 23 runs.

On Sunday, Southee once again altered the record books as he hit four more maximums to take his tally to 82 before falling victim to Broad. The New Zealand skipper has gone past Dhoni and also left behind Kevin Pietersen (81) and Misbah-ul-Haq (81).

Southee is currently among the top 15 batsmen in the list and is just two sixes away from equaling the record held by legendary West Indies batsman Sir Viv Richards. Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum is on top with 109.

New Zealand are staring at the prospect of a rare Test win after making a dash with the bat on Sunday to make an exciting start to the last two days of the second Test against England.

The Black Caps found some much-needed persistence to reach 202-3 in their second innings at stumps on the third day in Wellington, closing within 24 runs of the tourists.

Their gritty response was set up after opening batsmen Tom Latham and Devon Conway hit fifties.

Kane Williamson was unbeaten on 25, needing just four more runs to surpass Ross Taylor as New Zealand’s highest Test run-scorer.

The former skipper will resume with Henry Nicholls (18 not out) on Monday as New Zealand have slim hopes of leveling the two-match series on a Basin Reserve pitch which is introducing turn and variable bounce.
