NTAGI Working Group recommends SII’s COVID-19 vaccine Kovovax for people aged 12 years and above

Based on the recommendations of the Working Group, the NTAGI may soon submit its final recommendation to the Health Ministry.

According to a Times of India report, a COVID working group of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI), the government’s vaccine advisory body, has recommended Serum Institute of India’s (SII) use of Covovax vaccine for people aged 12 years and above. is recommended. Prakash Kumar Singh, Director (Government and Regulatory Affairs) at SII, had recently written to the Health Ministry urging it to include Kovovax in the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign for 12 years and above.

Based on the recommendations of the working group, NTAGI may submit its final recommendation to the health ministry soon. “The working group has now recommended to the Standing Technical Sub-Committee of NTAGI that Kovovax be included in the national immunization program for people aged 12 years and above,” Times of India quoted sources as saying.

The country started immunization of children aged 12-14 years from March 16. The nationwide vaccination campaign was launched on January 16, 2021, with healthcare workers being vaccinated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2, 2021.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began on March 1, 2021 for people above 60 years of age and 45 years and above with specified co-morbid conditions.

India started vaccination for all people above 45 years of age from 1st April last year. Following this, the government decided to expand its vaccination campaign by allowing everyone over the age of 18 to be vaccinated against the viral disease from May 1 last year.

The next phase of vaccination began on January 3 for adolescents in the age group of 15-18 years. India began giving preventive doses of vaccines to health care and frontline workers and people aged 60 years and above from January 10.
