NSCN(IM) invited to Delhi to continue talks on Naga issue, says Nagaland CM

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday said the Center is keen to resolve the Naga political issue and has invited the NSCN (IM) to New Delhi to continue talks. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an official event here, Rio said Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asked him and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to help and convince the Naga groups to find a solution.

On 21 September, Sarma and Rio had jointly met NSCN(IM) chief negotiator Tha Muivah in Dimapur, a day after the Centre’s new interlocutor AK Mishra held discussions with him.

The Chief Minister revealed that during his meeting with Muivah, it was conveyed that the Center is very keen on a solution so that peace and development can be accelerated in Nagaland.

“We are also holding discussions with the Indian government and sharing the Centre’s views with the negotiating parties,” he said. The conversation has resumed. .

“The talks were stalled for almost two years due to differences of opinion on some issues, but after a long time both the Center and the NSCN(IM) have agreed to resume talks with the new interlocutor, Mishra,” he said. They said.

Stating that there would be only one interlocutor from the Center to talk to all the Naga groups, Rio said Mishra had recently come to Dimapur and held preliminary consultations with the NSCN (IM) and the working committee of seven Naga National Political Groups (NNPG). is discussed.

The Center has been in talks with the NSCN (IM) since 1997 and signed the Framework Agreement on 3 August 2015, while parallel talks with the NNPG began in 2017 with the signing of the agreed status the same year.

There has been no progress in the talks since October 31, 2019, after the then interlocutor RN Ravi announced the completion of talks with all Naga groups.

On a possible reshuffle in his cabinet after the formation of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) of Nagaland – which also includes the opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF), Rio said, “It is under discussion.” “We are in no hurry as we have come together on the Naga political issue… Let the talks and things resume, after which we will think of an opposition-less government.”
