Now, Link Rupay Credit Cards With Google Pay For UPI Payments In India

New Delhi: Google Pay in association with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Tuesday launched support for RuPay credit card on Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

Users can now link their RuPay credit card with Google Pay to make payments at all online and offline merchants where RuPay credit cards are accepted.

The facility is now available for RuPay credit card holders of Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank and Union Bank of India, the company aided in a statement.

“This feature will give Google Pay users more flexibility and choice in making payments, and will lead to greater adoption of digital payments in the country,” said Sharath Bulusu, Director of Product Management, Google.

To activate, users need to add RuPay credit card to Google Pay. Users can tap on the option “RuPay Credit Card on UPI” in their profile and select the bank that has issued their RuPay Credit Card.

Next, users need to set a unique UPI PIN by entering the last six digits of the card number and OTP from their bank.

Nalin Bansal, Chief Relationship Management & Key Initiatives, Corporate Business, NPCI said, “The integration of RuPay Credit Card on UPI provides a remarkable user experience by combining the convenience of UPI with the benefits of RuPay Credit Card.”

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had given permission to link RuPay credit cards to the UPI platform in June 2022.

Meanwhile, NPCI reported a huge jump in the number of monthly transactions as UPI transactions reached 8.7 billion in March.

According to NPCI data, around 74 billion transactions worth Rs 125.94 trillion were done using UPI in the calendar year 2022.
