Noida: A flow cytometry laboratory inaugurated Post Graduate Institute of Child Health Local MLA in Noida on Tuesday Pankaj Lion.
Multi-parametric flow cytometry (immunophenotyping) is a technique in which cell number and cell function are assessed by measuring cluster differentiation markers in the cytoplasm or cell surface. It can be used for blood, bone marrow, cerebrospinal fluid (csf) and for other body fluids as well as for solid tissue such as lymph nodes after homogenization.
Institute Director Prof. Ajay Singh He said the new laboratory will help establish a state-of-the-art diagnostic service for children with blood diseases and immune deficiencies. “Since this service is available only in select centres, it will also be beneficial for patients from neighboring states.”
Highlighting the clinical utility, doctors said the new laboratory will help in accurate assessment of malignancies, evaluation of response to treatment and diagnosis of primary immune deficiency as well as monitoring of HIV and other hematological diseases. The second center with flow cytometry for Leukemia is located in the state King George Medical University, LucknowWhile the second one with flow cytometry for primary immune deficiencies is at SGPGI, Lucknow.
