Leaders of farmer organizations meeting at Singhu border on Wednesday.

Farmers organizations will now investigate the facts at their level in the case related to the brutal murder of Punjab youth Lakhbir Singh on the Singhu border of Sonepat on the morning of 15 October. Amidst claims of Nihangs killing Lakhbir for sacrilege, farmer organizations have formed their own separate fact-finding committee. Five farmer leaders have been included in this committee. This committee will examine all the aspects related to this matter at its level and submit the report to the farmers’ organizations.

Farmer organizations have included Kanwalpreet Singh Pannu, Baldev Singh Sirsa, Kaka Singh Kotra, Pargat Singh Jamarai and Jatinder Singh Chhina in their fact finding committee. The decision to constitute the committee was taken in a meeting of farmers’ organizations held on the Singhu border on Wednesday. In the meeting, the farmer leaders also demanded the resignation of Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar, who met Baba Aman Singh, the party chief of the four Nihangs who surrendered in Lakhbir’s murder, and Kailash Chaudhary, Minister of State for National Farmers Welfare.

According to Harmeet Singh Kadian of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Qadian), all farmer organizations have been asked to make farmers aware about the conspiracies being hatched by the central government. Apart from Harmeet Singh Qadian, Balveer Singh Rajewal, Buta Singh Burjgil, Ruldu Singh Mansa, Nirbhay Singh Dhudke were also present in the meeting.

Unions will undertake Kalash Yatra with the ashes of the farmers who died in Lakhimpur
It was also decided in the meeting of farmers organizations that the ashes of farmers who were crushed to death by BJP leaders in Lakhimpur Kheri, UP, would be flown to Kiratpur Sahib, Goindwal Sahib and Hussainiwala on October 24. For this, Kalash Yatras will be taken out in Majha, Malwa and Doaba areas of Punjab. For this, in the meeting itself, the duties of the farmer gangs were imposed.

If the problems of farmers in the mandis do not end, the struggle will be intensified.
Farmers’ organizations said in their meeting that farmers are facing problems in the grain markets of Punjab-Haryana. Paddy was demanded to be procured with 19% moisture and planted in shellers. Demands were also made to the state governments to instruct private sugarcane mills to be bound for immediate payment, to ensure supply of fertilizers to societies and private shops to check blackness of DAP fertilizers.
