The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has sent a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government, taking cognizance of the incident of brutal thrashing of a Dalit youth by tying him to a tree.

The youth, who was said to be having a relationship with the girl, was beaten up by his relatives and other villagers when he had come to meet her. It is being said that his private part was also attacked with a stick.

He was tied to a tree with a towel and beaten up. The video of the incident went viral on social media.

NCSC has issued notice to Chief Secretary, DGP of Uttar Pradesh and DM and SSP of Kanpur Dehat.

The commission has also sought an action taken report at the earliest after investigating the allegations leveled against the accused persons.

NCSC chairman Vijay Sampla said: “It is my duty as the chairman of the commission to ensure the rights given to the people of the Scheduled Caste community by the Constitution of the country.”

“If the officers to whom the notice has been issued by the commission do not respond immediately, the commission will issue summons to appear in person,” he said.
