‘Nothing is better in sport’: Sourav Ganguly impressed by James Anderson’s strike with the new ball

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was impressed by James Anderson who scored two goals in the morning session of the first Test between England and New Zealand starting at Lord’s today. Ganguly tweeted a video of Anderson bowling a swing delivery, which took the edge of New Zealand opener Tom Latham’s bat before being brilliantly caught by Jonny Bairstow in the slip cordon.

“How refreshing. Red ball swing start of a test match, nothing better in a game with cricket in white.. morning of a test,” tweeted Ganguly.

India are also set to tour England next month when they play a Test followed by three T20Is and as many ODIs. Apart from these, the tourists will also play three practice matches including two T20s.

Anderson and Stuart Broad returned to England’s playing XI after being dropped for the West Indies tour earlier this year. Both were dropped after England’s disastrous Ashes tour of Australia as they went down 0-4.

They also lost the Test series in the West Indies after which Joe Root stepped down as captain and was succeeded in the role by Ben Stokes. Brendon McCullum was later named as their red-ball coach.

Stokes and McCullum’s first assignment is the three-match Test series at home against New Zealand. “The two days before the Test have been really good and everyone is excited because we are always there for the start of the summer. I don’t think being the captain is much different, you just have to make some other decisions in between,” Stokes said during the toss.

England made debut right-arm pacer Matty Potts, who made a stellar start to his Test career, taking three wickets in the game’s morning session, putting New Zealand in deep trouble at 39/6 in 24 overs.
