OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei is reportedly not planning to launch his first smartphone next year. The latest leak comes just days after it announced a partnership with US chip maker Qualcomm. According to 91Mobiles, the new smartphone, which is likely to be called the Nothing Phone (1), could launch as early as 2022. At the moment, the details about the specifications of the Nothing phone are scant. The brand’s partnership with Qualcomm suggests that the device could be powered by a Snapdragon chipset that also powers almost all OnePlus phones.

Additionally, new reports suggest that nothing is working on the power bank, reportedly called Nothing Power (1), which may launch before the Nothing smartphone. It will be interesting to see if the upcoming smartphone will cost nothing as the founder Pei was said to be behind the highly popular and affordable Nord series. OnePlus Nord had revived the flagship killer reputation of OnePlus with high-end specs but with a price tag of less than Rs 30,000. The executive can still maintain that same approach with the first smartphone from Nothing. Notably, nothing acquired Andy Rubin’s Essential Company back in February. The company had earlier released the Essential Phone 1 in 2017. It’s likely the first smartphone from Nothing to use Essential’s technology as is all existing trademarks and logos.

Back in July, Nothing’s first product, the Ear(1) TWS earbuds, debuted globally. The earbuds received favorable reviews for offering premium features at an affordable price tag. The earbuds support AN and support Bluetooth v5.2 for connectivity with both Android and Apple smartphones. Two modes allow users to adjust the level of ANC. ‘Light Mode’ is for moderate noise cancellation, while ‘Max Mode’ is for noisy environments that can filter out up to 40dB of sound. To recapture normal mode with extraneous noise, users can activate transparency mode with a tap and hold gesture on the stem. The Nothing Ear (1) Buds use Clear Voice technology to ensure loud and clear audio during phone calls. The earbuds cost Rs 5,499.
