“The Cricket Association of Bengal wanted Wriddhiman Saha to play for Bengal at this crucial juncture, especially when Bengal would be fighting to win the Ranji Trophy after becoming the top-ranked team in the country to win the Ranji Trophy in the knockout stage and the group stage. ,” CAB chairman Avishek Dalmiya said in a statement.

“I had conveyed this to Wriddhiman and requested him to reconsider his decision. However, Wriddhiman has now informed us that he is not ready to play Ranji Knockouts.”

The 37-year-old, who has played 122 first-class matches, has also left his official team WhatsApp group, making it clear that he has moved on.

A CAB official said that Saha has not yet sought a no-objection certificate (NOC) but the association will give it to him on his demand.

“We tried our best to convince him through his childhood coach (Jayant Bhowmik) too, but he has made up his mind not to play for Bengal again. Whenever he asks for it, the association will give him NOC,” the official said. will give.” told PTI.

Saha had pulled out of the Ranji Trophy group stage citing ‘personal reasons’ for the first time since he was dropped from the Indian Test squad for the two-match home series against Sri Lanka in February.

CAB assistant secretary Debabrata Das then made outlandish statements against Saha in the media, questioning his commitment to anger the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman.
