‘Not The Right Thing To Do’: Aakash Chopra Picks Rishabh Pant As Captain In Delhi Capitals

New Delhi: New Delhi: The second phase of IPL 2021 is going to start in a few days. Ahead of the marquee event, Delhi Capitals decided to retain Rishabh Pant as the captain despite the return of Shreyas Iyer. Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra said that he is not happy with the decision.

“Rishabh Pant is the captain. That’s fine but personally I didn’t like that decision. You decide on a captain, appoint him, he stays with you for 2-3 years, takes the team to the finals. Well, he gets injured, you bring a stand-in captain and then you say let’s go with the stand-in; ‘Because he’s doing well in international cricket, Shreyas, you can wait’,” Chopra said in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel.

“Ideally it’s not the right thing to do, but it is,” Chopra said.

Chopra, however, expressed confidence that the Delhi Capitals team will reach the semi-finals this time as they have to win just two matches out of the remaining four matches of the second leg in the UAE.

It is believed that the decision to choose between Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant landed Delhi Capitals in trouble, but the management eventually decided to continue with Pant as the captain, as he helped the team score IPL 2021 points. was placed at the top of the table. The tournament was postponed due to coronavirus.

Delhi Capitals on Thursday officially named Pant as the captain for the remainder of the IPL 2021 season. Pant was earlier named captain during the first leg of IPL 2021, when regular skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Shreyas Iyer, however, has now recovered and has returned to the squad to play in IPL 2021 Phase 2.
