Not the moon of the saga, it was the first choice for young director Bhimla Nayak

With fans and critics giving thumbs-up to the Bhimla hero, filmmaker Sagar K Chandra has become the man of the moment. Young director Sagar K Chandra has received a lot of praise for portraying Pawan Kalyan in such a populist avatar after a long time.

The film starring Pawan Kalyan, Rana Daggubati and Nitya Menon was released on February 25 and is now doing well in theatres.

However, not everyone is aware that Sagar was not the original choice to direct the film. When Pawan and Trivikram decided to re-make the Malayalam blockbuster, they considered Vivek Athreya, director of Brocheverevarura.

However, because the young director was busy with Nani’s Ante Sundariniki, he was unable to snatch the opportunity. Later Sagar’s name came up and finally he got an opportunity, which he used very well, while Vivek went on the project with Nani.

Vivek Athreya received acclaim for his first two films, Mental Madhilo and Brocheverevarura. He was praised, especially for taking a new path for his second directorial venture produced by Vijay Kumar Manyam under the brand Manyam Productions. The serious subject is tackled with humour. Director Trivikram Srinivas, like many others, was so pleased with Vivek Atreya’s work that he referred him to Sithara Entertainments to work on a future film.

However, with the Bhimla hero ruling the hearts, Sagar is exposed with flying colors. During a recent media event to mark the success of his previous directorial Bhimla Nayak, Sagar while discussing his experience of working with Trivikram said, “Trivikram is a great personality and a flawless technician. He stays in the war room before conceptualizing a scene. I always saw him as a guru,” said Sagar K Chandra.
