price hike: In many states including Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, the budget of the kitchen has deteriorated due to the increase in the prices of food items amid the flood situation. Tomatoes have been in news for some time due to their skyrocketing prices, but other food items like coriander leaves, ginger, okra, bottle gourd, capsicum and other vegetables are not far behind.

At that time the price of tomato had reached Rs 250 per kg. Although the government made efforts to reduce it, but it is still being sold above Rs 100 per kg.

In Noida, the price of tomato is Rs 160 per kg and more in most areas. However, it is not only the steep rise in the price of tomatoes that has strained the kitchen budget of housewives, but the prices of other key items such as coriander, ginger, garlic, beans, apples, other fruits and even chillies have also skyrocketed.

  • Ginger: Current price – Rs 250-300 per kg; In June – 100 to 120 rupees / kg
  • Tomato: Current price – Rs 250-150 per kg, in June – Rs 20 to 30 per kg
  • Coriander: Current price – Rs 200-220 per kg, in June – Rs 60 to 80 per kg
  • Garlic: Current price – Rs 200 per kg, in June – Rs 70 to 80 per kg
  • Capsicum: Current price – Rs 160 a kg, in June – Rs 24 to 50 a kg
  • Chilli: Current price – Rs 120 to 100 a kg, in June – Rs 40 to 50 a kg
  • Brinjal: Current price – Rs 100 a kg, in June – Rs 30 to 40 a kg
  • Okra: Current price – Rs 60 to 80 kg, in June – Rs 40 to 50 kg
  • Gourd: Current price – Rs 60 to 80 per kg, in June – Rs 20 to 30 per kg

The price of cumin has crossed Rs 700. At the same time, till two months back, apples were being sold at Rs 1200 to 1500 per box. Now it has increased to Rs 2200. The street vendors are selling it at the rate of Rs 200 to 300 per kg.

In most states, the prices of most vegetables have crossed Rs 100. The shopkeepers of the market say that the reason for the inflation of vegetables is the rain. The disruption in transportation has reduced the availability of food items in the market.
