Within three hours on Sunday morning, Deesa received five inches of rain, flooding much of the city. Rain water entered shops in commercial premises and damaged a large quantity of goods including food grains.
In Deesa town, Sindhi Colony, Sant Anna High School, Lalchali and other areas were flooded with knee-deep water, bringing normal life to a standstill.
According to some estimates, about 300 farms in the region, mostly growing groundnut, were submerged in the rains. Farmers said that the water level in the fields was about three to four feet. Pawan Solanki, a farmer from Kansari village near Deesa, said, “We have suffered huge losses as our fields have been flooded.”
Farmer Kumbhaji Thakor said, “The water has washed away our groundnut, jowar and other crops ready for harvest.”
Dantiwada also recorded nearly six inches of rain in just two hours, bringing normal life to a standstill in the city and adjoining villages.
Banaskantha is still deficient by 24 per cent while Patan, Mehsana and Sabarkantha are deficient by 15 per cent, 30 per cent and 27 per cent respectively.
A cow died due to lightning in Gajera village of Aravalli district. Other districts of North Gujarat, Patan, Mehsana and Sabarkantha are also in the grip of rain.
