Nokia continues its focus on mid-range devices, but now wants to make them easier to repair.

Nokia has launched new Android phones before mobiles World Congress 2023 (MWC 2023) this week. The company is focusing on the mid-range segment which includes C and G series phones. It has stayed away from the specs battle with Chinese brands and that seems to have affected its popularity among the buyers and the latest market reports confirm the situation.

But Nokia wants to work within its resources and HMD Global now wants to offer eco-friendly devices that will be easy for consumers to repair. The Nokia G22 smartphone is the first smartphone from the company to focus on ease of repair after Apple and Samsung in this regard. The Nokia phone maker claims that Nokia G22 owners can change the battery in 5 minutes to keep the phone running for many years. The trickiest part about this replacement is that you don’t need any special tools to open the panel.

Nokia says that the battery unit can be switched on by prying open the panel using the bundled SIM ejector pin or a screwdriver. Not only this, HMD Global claims that within 20 minutes you can replace the phone’s bad display with the help of basic tools. The company has joined hands with repair specialist iFixit, which will offer parts, tools and even guide you with steps to replace the battery, broken screen and even replace the charging port on the device .

iFixit has previously criticized Apple for its so-called third-party repair program. The company wanted iPhone owners to buy specialized tools from them and source official parts as well, defeating the whole point of making the iPhone easy to repair. But with the Nokia G22, you are seeing how an open ecosystem works when it comes to home repairs.

The Nokia G22 also focuses on being eco-friendly, as its back panel is made from 100 percent recycled plastic. When it comes to the phone, there isn’t much to pay attention to. It features a 6.52-inch HD+ display with 90Hz refresh rate screen, and is powered by a Unisoc T606 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM.

The phone houses a 50-megapixel main sensor along with dual 2-megapixel macro and depth sensors. It houses a 5055mAh battery that charges at 20W speed. The Nokia G22 is promised up to Android 14 OS and three years of security updates which doesn’t sound like a lot these days. It is priced at $190 (roughly Rs. 15,700) and could be launched in 2019.
