NEW DELHI: Apex and Ceyane, the two towers built by Supertech in its Emerald Court compound in Sector 93A, will be brought down exactly at 2:30pm on Sunday.
The implosion has been designed by explosives expert Joe Brinkmann. The explosives will be triggered over nine seconds and the twin towers are expected to fall in all of 15 seconds.
The demolition will take place three days short of a year since the Supreme Court declared the twin towers illegal for violation of building laws and ordered them razed on August 31, 2021, and 10 years after the final revision of the layout plan by the Noida Authority paved the way for their current shape.
Here are the latest developments:
Supertech says twin towers constructed as per building plan approved by Noida Authority
Realty firm Supertech on Sunday said the twin towers set to be demolished this afternoon were constructed as per the building plan approved by Noida development authorities and no deviations were made.
“The Twin Towers Apex and Ceyane in Noida are a part of the Emerald Court project at Sector 93A constructed on land allotted by Noida authority. The building plans of the Project including the two towers were approved by the Noida Authority in 2009 which was strictly in accordance with the then prevailing Building Bye laws announced by the State Government,” Supertech Ltd said in a statement.
No deviation from the building plan was made and it was constructed after making full payment to the authority, it added.
40 stray dogs shifted; admin urged to hold ‘dummy explosion’ to save birds
At least 40 stray dogs living in and around the Supertech twin towers in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida have been shifted temporarily to shelters run by NGOs ahead of the court-mandated implosion of the buildings on Sunday.
An NGO has also requested authorities to conduct a dummy explosion or a false firing just before the twin towers are razed in order to save the birds in the area.
Several NGOs, including House of Stray Animals, Friendicoes, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and Happy Tails foundation have pitched in to accommodate the stray dogs temporarily.
Evacuation of adjacent buildings completed
The evacuation of two housing societies near the twin towers of Supertech has been completed. While the residents, their vehicles and pets had to be moved out by 7 am, private security and other staff will also be removed from the two societies by 1 pm. Most of the residents have already moved out, many of them last evening itself, police officials overseeing the evacuation exercise said.
Final check at 2pm, before a siren & the fall
The Noida expressway will shut for traffic from 2:15pm till the dust settles and road is traffic-worthy again while the air space in a one nautical mile radius above the blast area will be no-fly zone for a brief period before and after the demolition.
Families leave, with a prayer for homes
Plants, balconies, fountain, pool and lawn all covered in plastic and windows barred or removed, the residents of Emerald Court left their homes with a prayer and a sense of vindication of their legal fight. While some have moved out to be with friends and relatives, others are in neighbouring buildings where meals and medical help is taken care of.
One last selfie with Apex & Ceyane
Almost everyone who took the Noida expressway on Saturday stopped for a selfie with the Apex and Ceyane towers in the background, some of them seeing the towers for the first and last time, thanks to the media coverage. Competing with them were residents from other sectors who dropped by in rickshaws to capture the last moments of the towers.
