NOIDA: A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Chaura village under Sector 24 police station jurisdiction, police said on Wednesday.
Police said the accused, Rajkumar, a native of Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh, is from the village.
“On Monday evening, the girl’s family reached Sector 24 police station and told cops that Rajkumar raped their daughter. They said their daughter felt unwell earlier on Monday, and they had to take her to the hospital,” said station house officer Amit Kumar.
After her check-up, the doctors told the family that the girl was pregnant, after which she narrated what happened. “In the complaint, her family alleged that the accused threatened their daughter with consequences if she told anyone about him. We have registered a case under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and relevant sections of the Pocso Act, 2012, against the accused,” Kumar said.
Police arrested the accused on Tuesday from sectors 12-22-56 T-point and produced him before the court.
“He has been sent to judicial custody. Rajkumar, a street vendor, was known to the girl,” the SHO said.
According to police data, 298 rape cases got reported from 2017-2021. As many as 41 rape cases got registered in 2021 and 42 in 2020.
