No Suspicious Object Found, Say Police After Delhi School Receives Bomb Threat

No suspicious object was found during a thorough search of the premises of the Delhi Public School on Mathura Road here after the school administration received a bomb threat via email on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Rajesh Deo, after reviewing the situation, said the threat was received on the official email address of the school administration and the police was informed around 8 am.

He said local police personnel, bomb disposal squad, a dog squad and a SWAT team were immediately dispatched to the spot.

“It was a challenge… All the buildings on the school campus were checked and no suspicious items were found. The condition is normal. We also searched the outer areas of the school premises.

As news of the bomb spread, panic-stricken parents gathered outside the school and took their children home.

The school was evacuated around 8 a.m. and the fire department was notified of the danger. Officials said a fire engine has been sent to the spot.

According to officials, the police personnel were broadly divided into three groups based on the layout of the school and an intensive manual and technical search began. The school has three buildings – Pre-Primary, Junior and Senior Wings.

The process of evacuating the students also started without any delay. The senior police officer said that students from different wings were given the facility to assemble in the open ground near their buildings.

The building premises and the open area were thoroughly checked with dog squads, while manual searches were also carried out.

Deo said that the parents who had gathered in large numbers at the school gate to take their wards home were facilitated without any panic and rush.

Police said the school has around 4,000 students and all the attendees were handed over to their parents without any harm or injury.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident under relevant provisions of the IT Act and the Indian Penal Code and efforts are on to trace the source and identify the person who sent the email, he said.

The Indian School in Delhi’s Sadiq Nagar had received two bomb threats in April this year and in November 2022.

The most recent threat to The Indian School was made through an email on 12 April, after which the school was evacuated as a bomb squad and other agencies inspected the premises for any explosives. The mail was later declared a hoax.
