New Delhi: Tokyo Paralympics bronze medalist high jumper Sharad Kumar The man is a relieved as he will not require surgery and was advised complete rest for two months along with medication after he was diagnosed with heart swelling last month.
29-year-old Kumar had to undergo some tests after being admitted to the hospital All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on 16 September due to chest tightness.
He was discharged after a few days, but had to undergo a few tests to decide on future course of action after he was diagnosed with heart inflammation.
“(After the test results) the doctor said (heart) swelling has been confirmed and I will need rest for two months. I will also be on medication,” Kumar told PTI on Monday.
“Thankfully, I would need any surgery. I was only stressed about that, thinking it would affect my playing career. So, I am very relieved,” he said.
The Patna-born athlete, who lives in Delhi, said doctors have advised him to be in complete rest without any kind of “stress and exhaustion”.
Kumar, whose left leg was paralyzed after being given a fake polio vaccine as a child, won a bronze medal in the T-42 high jump event in Tokyo. Paralympic With an effort of 1.83m on 31st August.
He took part in the T-42 final in Tokyo last month despite suffering a knee injury during training ahead of his event. He later revealed that he was on the verge of being eliminated from the competition.
