The aircraft, which was on the ground, was undergoing mandatory engineering checks before taking off for Tiruchirappalli that day (PTI).

A senior official of aviation regulator DGCA said on Tuesday that the event was duly informed and there was no compromise on safety

Amid reports of a passenger allegedly opening the emergency exit door of an IndiGo flight before takeoff, the Karnataka Congress on Wednesday leveled fresh allegations against BJP leader Tejashwi Surya, claiming that he was behind it. According to reports, the passenger accidentally opened the exit after boarding the flight at Chennai airport last month.

The Congress questioned why the BJP was silent on the matter and “hid the incident for so long”. Neither Surya nor his office has so far responded to the allegations. A case of mischief of children has come to light by trying to open the emergency exit door of a plane. Why play with the lives of passengers?” Karnataka Congress said.

Meanwhile, AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a tweet, “BJP VIP brat! How dare you complain to the airline? Is this the norm for the BJP ruling elite? Did it compromise passenger safety? Oh, is that so! You can’t ask questions about VIPs of BJP!”

Pointing out some questions against the BJP and the civil aviation ministry, the Congress said, “Why hasn’t the aviation ministry acted on the incident even a month after the mischief on the plane? This is a punishable and serious matter, why was it covered up? What is the compensation for the delay and loss of other passengers due to his mischief?”

Civil Aviation Ministry sources reacted to the matter on Wednesday and said that the emergency exit was opened by mistake while the flight was still on the ground. Indigo Airlines assured that the crew took note and subsequently, all appropriate actions like re-installation of doors, pressure checks etc. were taken before takeoff.

“What was the intention of the MP? What were the plans to create the disaster? Why was he shifted to the back seat after apologizing?” the Congress asked, questioning the prime minister. Narendra Modi If this “prank” had been done after take-off then who would have been responsible for the disaster.

Questioning whether the MP used his good offices to suppress the news, Congress MLA and KPCC’s communications in-charge Priyank Kharge tweeted, “Why is Indigo so hesitant to name the passenger? Why didn’t he report to DGCA? Why is there no comment from the MP? BJP’s Tejashwi Surya allegedly opens emergency exit of Indigo flight, flight gets delayed by 2 hours.
