He may have scored three half-centuries in four innings in IPL 2023, but David Warner’s below-average strike rate has come under scrutiny.

Delhi Capitals succumbed to their fourth consecutive defeat in IPL 2023 on Tuesday night. DC are struggling with the batting performance.

The likes of Prithvi Shaw, Rovman Powell and Lalit Yadav have failed to fire with the bat. However, David Warner’s struggles have been the highlight despite the skipper scoring three fifties in four innings.

Warner is currently second on the batting charts with 209 runs from four matches, the Australian’s strike rate of 114.83 has been tremendous.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan tweeted about Warner’s poor strike-rate. The 38-year-old wrote, “How can one not point to David Warner’s strike rate?? He has been playing on low strike for some time now.

The fans have been agreeing with Pathan.

One fan wrote, ‘Finally he is out! I think some of these big players can get away with such strike rates on the pretext of holding one end! T20 seems to have a defensive mindset and so far the teams with the bat have not won matches!”

But not everyone agrees with Pathan’s argument.

Some fans justified Warner’s poor strike rate under the tweet.

He said, ‘We need some top-order players to play the anchor innings. A fan wrote, its ok if the SR is not too high.

“Warner has been DC’s torch bearer. He needs to fire at the top, work in the middle overs and explode in the death overs. Nobody supports him while batting, more pressure to win matches as captain. That’s why the strike rate has to be ignored.

Warner did not dominate the bowlers as he has done historically in the IPL.

He might be DC’s top performer with the bat, but those knocks haven’t helped the franchise’s cause.

In their recent match against Mumbai Indians, Warner again registered a slow half-century.

The veteran opener took 47 balls to score 51 runs.
