Noida: Ganga water supply Officials said that apartment complexes and residential blocks of Noida will be closed for the next few days from Sunday.
He said that due to annual maintenance work in Upper Ganga Canal, the supply would be cut by the Irrigation Department. Noida Authority provides 240 million liters Ganges water Every day in the city. However, the total dissolved solids level is expected to remain high for the next few days as the groundwater will be supplied to the residents. The daily demand in Noida has been estimated by the authority to be around 340 MLD.
Officials deputed in the Water and Sewerage Works Division in the authority said that normal supply is expected to be restored from November 4, the day people will celebrate Diwali. “The irrigation department has informed us about the 20-day shutdown for maintenance work. Retaining wall to be desilted and repaired. So the canal has to be dried up. Till then, we will harness our resources to the maximum potential to improve the quality of domestic water supply,” said RP Singh, deputy general manager of the Department of Water and Sewerage Works.
Officials said that the maintenance work takes 30 days but this time it will be completed in 20 days. They have made provision and stored water in underground reservoirs to handle the daily needs of the residents till Thursday,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the authority is relying on its wells to meet the demands of the residents. The authority has 11 wells, which have the capacity to supply up to 18 MLD to the city. However, five of them are non-operational or under-utilized due to technical issues or malfunctions. The authority has issued tenders for commissioning them. Rajesh Sahai, general secretary, Noida Federation of Apartment Owners Association, said, “Since 2019, I have been hearing about the Noida Authority issuing tenders for repair of its wells and tube wells. I don’t understand why they can’t do this before the supply stops every October.
