Addressing a press conference later in the evening, TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh alleged that a section of the judiciary was “not behaving according to the law”.

However, he also alleged, “But, unfortunately a section of the judiciary in the Calcutta High Court is not behaving according to the law.” Responding to Ghosh’s statement, BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh said TMC’s anger is quite natural as “the cat is out of the bag now”.

“Several TMC leaders are being arrested in corruption cases. And, whoever speaks against TMC’s corruption is wrong, be it the governor or the judiciary. This proves that he has no respect for the judiciary.

Senior advocate Bikas Bhattacharya, appearing for the petitioner, requested the court to order a forensic examination of the letter.

ED’s counsel Samrat Goswami submitted that Ghosh was arrested by the agency on January 21, and was in its custody for 14 days on the orders of the trial court.

Ghosh has been in judicial custody since the ED’s custody ended.

Justice Gangopadhyay directed the ED and the CBI to file a report with regard to the letter before the court by April 20.
