No evidence of Pakistani nationals among Taliban fighters: Pentagon

New Delhi: The United States Department of Defense has said that they have no evidence to confirm recent reports that there were any Pakistani nationals with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

During a press conference on Thursday, Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said he saw nothing to corroborate former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s allegations that Pakistan had partnered with the Taliban to capture Kabul in their 10,000 15,000 people from and Afghanistan told PTI.

“As we said earlier, Pakistan has a common interest in safe havens along that border and they have also been and have been victims of terrorist activities,” Kirby was quoted as saying by PTI.

“And I mean, I think it’s something that we all share here, helping each other and not falling prey to these kinds of attacks from that part of the world,” he said.

On Wednesday, a key congressional committee unanimously passed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, which now calls for a report from Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on the security of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal. Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney introduced the amendment and the House Armed Services Committee accepted it by voice vote.

The Defense Secretary must report on the vulnerability of the seizure or control of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal. The report will include the views of Inter-Services Intelligence personnel of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence personnel and known extremism, likely to terrorist threats from Afghanistan.
