No COVID test at Kolkata and Delhi airports; a first-hand account

The new version of Omicron has again increased the protection of COVID everywhere. Naturally, the first place to take extra vigil is the airport. So nowadays flight travel means that vaccination certificate has to be kept ready and if the said vaccination course is going to happen then RTPCR test is necessary.

In such a situation, air travel definitely means keeping everything ready before travelling.

This is the author’s first report.

I was to travel from Kolkata to Delhi on 1st December. My flight was from Kolkata at 7.45 am and will have to reach the airport early, as per the instructions given, to follow the covid guidelines.

The airline company has instructed to go for web checking through message and health form has been given in that process. I filled that form and wrote that my vaccination course is over. There was no column where the proof of vaccination was to be uploaded. As I entered Kolkata airport at 6.30 am, CISF personnel checked my ID proof and ticket as usual. When I asked the officer if he would like to see my vaccination certificate, he said no. Thermal checking was also not done. I was surprised but thought all those things would be checked at the airlines counter.

As soon as I went to the counter with my luggage, procedures were done but neither I was asked about my vaccination nor any arrangement for thermal screening was done.

Still, I figured there would be some Covid checks during the security check, or during the final boarding time.

But there was no checking anywhere. I was surprised but expected that at least there is more traffic from Delhi airport as the national capital than everywhere else India and at the airport abroad.

My return ticket was on the evening of 8th December.

As soon as I reached the gate of T2 airport, there was a huge queue and at various places it was written that social distance should be maintained. I was surprised that in Delhi also they did not ask for my vaccination certificate and here also I did not face any thermal test. I don’t know what norms were followed for international visitors but nothing was checked on the domestic front.

But there was also an announcement about wearing masks and sanitization a couple of times. When I reached Kolkata airport when I was going out from gate number 1A, there was thermal checking station but no one was there to check.

This whole incident of Kolkata-Delhi-Kolkata journey raises a serious question that how are we going to check the new edition.
