No clue of ragging in suicide of BJB College student: Police

Police said they have not found any evidence of ragging related to the suicide of a female student of BJB Autonomous College, even as the victim’s parents continued their protest here for the 11th day. Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh said at a press conference here that the police have questioned 198 people, including students, hostel inmates, staff and faculty members, during the investigation into the suicide case of a 19-year-old girl. Plus-III First Year.

Police have so far questioned 198 college students and hostel students, friends, relatives and family members of the victim, but no one pointed to ragging. The police also asked him if the woman was under pressure, the DCP said, adding that her cellphone would be sent to Singapore to get the data. He said technical experts, cyber experts, forensic science technology and even a psychologist are also engaged in the investigation. No one has found any clue to show that the victim was a victim of ragging.

The DCP said that the police is still investigating and a phone number has been distributed among the students to give any information related to the case confidentially. The woman was found hanging in her hostel room on July 2. An purported suicide note found near him pointed to alleged ragging by three seniors, prompting him to take the extreme step. But no name was mentioned in the note.

Meanwhile, the woman’s parents shifted their dharna to Lower PMG Square here after they were expelled from their agitation in front of the college gate. How many days will it take for the police to identify the three seniors who abetted him to suicide? We will continue our dharna here till justice is done. The parents said that if the police is unable to trace the culprits, it is better to hand over the case to the CBI. He alleged that some students have told that the warden and superintendent of the college are not listening to their complaints and are threatening to tell them nothing. The victim’s father said that unless these officers are removed from their posts, there cannot be a fair investigation as the hostel students are under immense stress and pressure.

“We have no faith in the police. They are yet to inform us about the status of the investigation. The people responsible for my daughter’s death are still in college. How can we get justice as long as these people are on top,” his mother asked. Meanwhile, the opposition Congress said it would again raise the issue in the assembly on Wednesday. It is grossly inhuman to drag the victim’s mother on the streets to raise a dharna. CLP leader Narsingh Mishra said that the police has violated human rights.
