No chance of leadership change in Karnataka: Sadananda Gowda

Former Union minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Wednesday said there is no “chance” for leadership change in Karnataka as the BJP central leadership is happy with the development activities in the state and the handling of COVID-19. Amid speculation in some quarters that Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa might be replaced, BJP MP from Bengaluru North Gowda said he did not believe any such step was taken.

“I don’t think there is any truth in the ongoing discussion about change of leadership as these decisions are taken by our central level leaders keeping in mind the political situation in the states,” the former chief minister told reporters here. . He said he has information that no such decision has been taken so far after Yeddyurappa “explained” Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah about the “current situation”.

Gowda said the steps taken by the Chief Minister during the COVID-19 pandemic and the progress made by Karnataka in development activities have been appreciated and there was no reason to remove them. “It is my strong feeling that there is no possibility of change of leadership. It is all speculation,” he said.

On why priests from various Lingayat Mats were rallying behind Yeddyurappa amid speculations of a change of leadership, Gowda said, “Whenever we do some good work, people appreciate it. As a result, people stand by his side. are.” Asked about BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel commenting on the purported audio, he hinted at change of leadership and formation of a new team, saying there was no need as the former himself dismissed it as fake. Gowda said, “I think there is no possibility of leadership change. The rest is left to the national level leaders.”

After Yeddyurappa’s visit to Delhi last week, talks of change of leadership had been going on for a long time. Yeddyurappa, a strong Lingayat leader, has dismissed the talk of change of leadership as baseless.

A large number of Lingayat priests met Yeddyurappa and extended their support and even warned of political consequences for the BJP if he was removed from the chief minister’s post.
