Taking a jibe at the BJP-led NDA government over five years of demonetisation, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said demonetisation was a well-planned move by the government in the interest of its friends, for which people have no apology.

Rahul Gandhi wrote on Twitter, “People would have forgiven the government, it was a mistake, but demonetisation was a deliberate move by the government in the interest of its friends, for which there is no apology.”

Meanwhile, another Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan Sachin Pilot targeted the central government over demonetisation and said that the country is still bearing the brunt of it.

He said that the people will not tolerate the government looting their hard earned money.

Pilot tweeted, “The country is still bearing the brunt of demonetisation by the central government. This unplanned decision has destroyed the small-medium industries, employment, income and economy of the country.”

The decision to ban Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8, 2016.
