“Although I’ve never been disturbed by such a malicious agenda of fringe elements, all concerned are hereby warned that if such mischief continues I will not hesitate to take them to the law in the larger interest of our government, party and millions of our hardworking karyakartas,” Gadkari sent a series of tweets, tagging them to the BJP, the party president, and the PMO.
The tweets under the ‘Aadhi haqeekat, aadha fasana (half truth, half fiction)’ tagline given by Gadkari, who for sometime has been complaining against misrepresentation of his statements by a section of media, were provoked by reports based on distorted versions of two of his recent speeches. In one of his speeches, the minister was referring to a section of bureaucracy which is lethargic and delays taking decisions while in the other, he recalled how he, as a PWD minister in Maharashtra in the 1990s, he had taken a decision to build roads in villages for public good without caring about the consequences.
But his speeches were taken out of context to suggest that those were in reference to Gadkari’s current responsibility at the Centre, triggering speculation which promptly linked the “distorted version” to BJP’s decision to drop him from its parliamentary board.
