‘Nitin Gadkari is an example of how public representatives can work for development’: Pawar

Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar on Saturday lauded Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for using electricity effectively for development.

Pawar said Gadkari is a great example of how a public representative can work for the development of the country.

“I remember before (Mr) Gadkari took over this responsibility, about 5,000 km of work had been done. But after he took charge, the figure has crossed 12,000 km,” he said, PTI reported.

Speaking at a function in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar, the NCP chief said: “I am attending the function as I was told that (Mr) Gadkari was going to inaugurate several projects in Ahmednagar, which is the city’s long-standing city. Will resolve the pending issues, and he wants me to be present.”

Pawar said once the stone-laying ceremony for a project is done, often nothing happens.

“But when it comes to (Mr) Gadkari’s projects, the work starts within a few days of the celebrations,” he said.

In his address, Gadkari said that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also diverted local rivers and streams while executing road projects in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district.

“I suggest (Maharashtra Rural Development Minister) Hasan Mushrif to think about focusing on water conservation in Ahmednagar district,” he said.
