NIT Srinagar Students Develop Kashmir’s First Racing Model ‘Go-Kart’

A group of 25 students from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar developed the Go-Kart (G-01). A spokesperson of the institute said here that it would participate in the All India Go Karting Championship to be held in Coimbatore next week.

He said that the first racing model G-01 of Team Garuda of Mechanical Engineering Department was flagged off on Thursday by Incharge, Director, NIT, Srinagar MF Wani and Registrar Syed Qaiser Bukhari.

“The team of 25 students was formed by Head of Department Adnan Qayoom and they worked under the mentorship of HS Pali and Dinesh Kumar Rajendran for the last several months on campus,” the spokesperson said.

He said that the go-kart has been designed with various components and a 150 cc bike engine has been used in the vehicle. It runs on diesel and goes up to a top speed of 150 kmph.

The spokesperson said the trial run was conducted successfully and it passed all the tests before going on the road.

“This is the first time that students have developed something like the G-Cart model. This is just the beginning and there are many more to come. Our students are working day and night on innovations and we are working on our basic infrastructure on campus. Also upgrading the infrastructure.

Rakesh Sehgal, Director, NIT Srinagar, in his message said that go-kart is a new variant in Kashmir, but it is more popular in South Indian states. “The trend of innovation is developing in the valley with advanced technology in every field and our students are performing well,” he added. Coordinator Garuda Team, HS Pali said that this is the biggest milestone in the history of NIT Srinagar.

“The G-01 model is the culmination of months of hard work, dedication and collaboration by the team members of Garuda,” he said.

“We have pushed the limits of what is possible from the students of Kashmir. Team Garuda faculty coordinator Dinesh Kumar Rajendran said, “The launch and demonstration of G-01 is an opportunity to showcase the capabilities of our karting model.

Rajendran said that the student team from NIT Srinagar will participate in the All India Go Karting Competition organized by Kari Motors Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.

“The students are well trained and are capable of doing wonders in the days to come,” he added.
