NIRF Ranking 2023 LIVE Updates: IIT Madras, IISc Bengaluru Top Institutes, Miranda House Best Among Colleges

A total of 13 categories have been released this year. The list includes rankings of higher education institutions in sub-categories including top universities, top colleges and section-wise list of best engineering, medical, law and management colleges, pharma colleges, architecture and others. According to the official website, the ranking parameters include – teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.

This year there has been an increase in the number of colleges applying for the ranking. A total of 8686 institutions participated in NIRF 2023. There has been a 150 per cent increase in the number of institutions applying for NIRF since its launch in 2015, said Anil Kumar Nasa, member secretary, NBA. In 2016, around 3500 institutions participated. A total of 7254 higher education institutions participated in 2022. 6272 institutes participated in NIRF 2021. The number of unique applicants for India rankings increased from 2,426 in 2016 to 4,030 in 2021, while the total number of applications for rankings across categories increased from 3,565 in 2016 to 6,272 in 2021.

NIRF was approved by the MHRD and was launched by the Minister of Human Resource Development on September 29, 2015. Last year, IIT Madras retained its position as the top college in India. It was followed by IISC Bangalore which was the best-ranked institute in the research as well as university category, as per NIRF Rankings 2022.
