NIRF Ranking 2021: 32 Colleges from Tamil Nadu in Top 100 in NIRF Rank Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Five state universities slipped in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2021 released on Thursday. While Anna University dropped four places in both the university category and engineering category to be ranked 16th and 18th respectively, Madras University Slipped six ranks from 22nd to 28th.
In the Colleges category, Loyola College has gained three places to rank as the third best college in the country. However, Presidency College slipped two places to the seventh position. The top 100 includes 32 colleges from Tamil Nadu, the same as last year.

The Christian Medical College of Vellore has retained its third position among medical colleges. In engineering category, IIT Madras was the top ranked institute, knight trichy was in 9th place and Vellore Institute of Technology 12th.
Anna University vice-chancellor R Velraj said reduction in the number of PhD admissions and more students discontinuing their engineering degrees to join medicine were the main reasons for the drop in rankings.
He said, “The university fixed an eligibility criterion for PhD admissions, which resulted in fewer admissions. Last year with engineering counseling preceded medical counselling, more students discontinued their courses after getting medical admissions. This led to graduates The results affected our scores,” he said. Madras University vice-chancellor S Gowri said vacancies among faculty members would be one of the reasons for the fall in the rankings. “We will study the reasons and try to improve our rankings,” he said.
Coimbatore’s Bharathiar University slipped from 13 to 14, while Bharathidasan University in Trichy dropped from 53 to 57 in the university category. Madurai Kamaraj University also slipped from 60 to 63.
However, Alagappa University at Karaikudi has increased from 36 to 33 and Periyar University Salem jumped 10 places from 83 to 73.
In the Dental Colleges category, Savita Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences was ranked third, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research 8th and SRM Dental College 10th. Among pharmacy colleges, JSS College of Pharmacy in Ooty was ranked 7th.
