NIA files chargesheet in Darbhanga blast case: Lashkar men planned to burn sleeping train riders, say sources

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday filed a chargesheet against five accused in the June 17 Darbhanga blast case. All of them are alleged henchmen of Lashkar-e-Taiba, sources told CNN-News18.

One Iqbal Kana of Lahore is also named in the chargesheet.

The case pertains to an explosion in a parcel at platform number one of Darbhanga railway station in Bihar.

Sources said that an investigation has revealed that LeT operatives had planned to set ablaze the long-distance train by placing an improvised explosive device (IED), or a parcel bomb.

He said the idea was that the entire train would catch fire and there would be considerable loss of life and property.

Sources said that to carry out the task, accused Mohammad Nasir Khan and Imran Malik fabricated the IED on the instructions of Pakistan-based Lashkar member Hafeez Iqbal (aka Iqbal Kana).

He used locally sourced chemicals and put them in a parcel of clothing.

According to sources, the package was booked for the Secunderabad-Darbhanga Express, which departs at night, with the intention that on triggering of the IED, the parcel would ignite and set fire to other parcels booked in the van, will convert it. in a great struggle.

It was reportedly planned to be carried out at night, so that it would go unnoticed for as long as possible and the fire would engulf the sleeping passengers.

Investigations further revealed that accused Nasir Khan had traveled to Pakistan and received detailed training in the methods of terrorism, the sources said, including espionage, handling of arms and ammunition and making IEDs.

He said that he also got funds from Pakistan on several occasions to carry out the conspiracy.

According to sources, after the incident, Pakistan-based handlers tried to help the arrested accused in taking him abroad via Nepal; However, he was caught before he could escape.
