NIA arrests former LTTE intelligence member for smuggling arms, drugs from Chennai

The investigation has revealed that the accused Satkunam alias Sabesan had organized meetings of conspiracy theories of LTTE sympathizers in India.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested a former member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) intelligence wing from Chennai, Tamil Nadu for alleged involvement in the smuggling of arms and drugs from Pakistan to Sri Lanka, and proceeds to Support the revival of Tamil extremist organization to use.

“Yesterday (October 5), the NIA arrested Satkunam alias Sabesan, 47, a Sri Lankan national and a former member of the LTTE’s intelligence wing, presently residing in Valasaravakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu from Pakistan to Sri Lanka. drug trafficking, and to use the proceeds for furthering and supporting the revival of the LTTE,” the NIA said in a statement.

The investigation revealed that the accused Satkunam had organized conspiracy meetings of LTTE sympathizers in India. He was instrumental in channeling the proceeds of drug trafficking to former LTTE cadres in Sri Lanka for the revival of the terrorist organization. The investigation in the matter is still going on.

The NIA had on July 1 this year registered a Vizhinjam arms case against six Sri Lankan nationals under sections of the Arms Act, based on a complaint by the Narcotics Control Bureau, “five AK-47 rifles and 1000 rounds of 9 mm ammunition (300). KG were seized along with heroin off Minicoy coast at the interception of fishing vessel Ravihansi by Coast Guard on 18.3.2021.
