According to media reports, the laborers were contractual employees of MTNL and were doing line work after falling into the sewer line on Main Bawana Road. He said he was not wearing any protective gear.

Four people, trapped inside a sewer in North West Delhi’s Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar area, died and their bodies were retrieved after an overnight rescue operation in the early hours of Wednesday, officials said. Police said that three of the four persons were private contractual employees who were working on the lines of MTNL at the time of the incident on Tuesday afternoon. The fourth is a rickshaw puller who tried to save three laborers but that too got stuck in the sewer.

Rescue work was started after Samaypur Badli police station received information about the incident at around 6.30 pm on Tuesday. Apart from the police, officials of the fire department and a team of the National Disaster Response Force were also involved in the rescue effort.
