In the first match of the series played at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand took a 1-0 lead with a seven-wicket win. The Netherlands batted first and were bowled out for 202 in 49.4 overs and Will Young’s scintillating first century took New Zealand to the target in 38.3 overs.
The Netherlands fought back in the second ODI after keeping New Zealand at 264/9 despite Latham’s 140 for 123. At one stage of his chase, he looked comfortable at 81/2 before another batting collapse took place and he was bowled out for 146 in 34.1 overs. New Zealand won by 118 runs.
