New Zealand have chosen Kolkata as their practice venue to prepare for the two-match series against India that will mark the start of a new cycle for the World Test Championship (WTC). The Kane Williamson-led team will practice at the Jadavpur University’s second campus ground in Salt Lake before heading to Kanpur for the first Test starting November 25.

Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya said, “The Test team will practice at the Jadavpur University’s second campus venue.” The second and final Test will be hosted in Mumbai from December 3.

A two-man Kiwi Reiki team visited the Eden Gardens, which will host the third and final Twenty20 against India on 21 November. Avishek said, “The Resi team expressed satisfaction with the facilities and bio bubble arrangement norms at the site.”

“We understand the importance of players’ safety. We have experience in organizing matches at Bio-Bubble and we will make sure everything goes well.

The T20I will mark the return of international cricket at the Eden Gardens, which last hosted the Day/Night Test between India against Bangladesh in November 2019, before the pandemic struck. The state government has allowed 70 per cent capacity for the first match, which means around 40,000 fans can come to the stadium to watch the competition.

Eden will also host the West Indies team for the third and final match of the ODI series on February 12 next year.
