New Zealand announce squad for India tour: Trent Boult not available for Test, will play T20

New Zealand’s left-arm pacer Trent Boult has made himself unavailable for the upcoming two-match Test series against India. New Zealand said the reason for Boult and pacer Colin de Grandhomme being unavailable for the Test against India is likely to be further time in bio-secure bubbles and managed isolation. Cricket (NZC) on Thursday.

Bolt will leave for New Zealand after taking part in the three-match T20I series against India.

“Trent has already spent the best part of 60 days in hard-managed isolation this year, while Colin was on the road from May until recently returning home from Pakistan. New Zealand coach Gary Stead said in a statement: “From speaking to both players it was clear that it was the best option for them to stay out of this Test tour and for them to focus on getting ready for New Zealand’s home summer.”

This will be the first meeting between the two teams in the longest format of the game since the WTC final in June. The last time New Zealand toured India, they were beaten 3-0 in 2016. The Test series marks the first meeting between the two teams in the longest format of the game since the WTC final in June. The first Test will be played from November 25 to 29 in Kanpur and the second Test will be played in Mumbai from December 3 to 7.

Three T20 matches are to be played in Jaipur (November 17), Ranchi (November 19) and Kolkata (November 21). The team currently participating in the Men’s T20 World Cup will be the team for the T20I series against India.

The 20-man squad for the Test series against India includes regular players like captain Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham, Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls, who have Will Young as their backup. Tom Blundell will take over the wicketkeeping duties after BJ Watling retires from international cricket following India’s inaugural World Test Championship final win at Southampton in June this year.

In the spin bowling department, there are left-arm spinners Ejaz Patel and Mitchell Santner, off-spinner Will Somerville as well as left-arm uncapped spin all-rounder Rachin Ravindra and wicketkeeper-batsman Glenn Phillips, who provide part-time off-spin options. While Tim Southee, Neil Wagner and Kyle Jamieson provide the pace options.

“Touring India is one of the greatest cricketing experiences and I know our people are really looking forward to the challenge. It’s fair to say that we are expecting spin-friendly conditions and there are many options in this department. The success of our spinners on their recent tours of the sub-continent has been encouraging and we are hopeful that they can come back to prominence once again. Starting the second installment of WTC is really exciting and we know there will be an added incentive for all teams following their victory in the inaugural competition,” concluded Stead.
