New Zealand all-rounder Anna Pietersen on Tuesday announced her retirement from international cricket, ending her nine-year career. 31-year-old Anna, who last represented New Zealand in March 2020, played 32 ODIs and 33 T20Is, featuring in an ICC Cricket World Cup and three T20 World Cups. “I have loved every minute of playing for the White Ferns and representing New Zealand. Many thanks to my family, friends, coaches, teammates and everyone who has helped me throughout my international career,” said Anna. “The White Ferns have a special team culture and I have found some lifelong connections. Good luck making it. While on the team, I have also enjoyed meeting and competing with players from all over the world,” he added.
However, Anna Pietersen will continue to play domestic cricket where she will represent Auckland Hearts. She will also serve as the Rugby Manager for Women and Girls at North Harbor Rugby.
“I still feel I have a lot to offer at the domestic level and I look forward to getting ready for Auckland Hearts again this season,” she said.
“As a seasoned member of Hearts, I enjoy giving back to young players and watching them begin their cricketing journey,” she said.
A powerful striker of the ball and a canny off-spinner, the right-handed batsman first played for New Zealand in 2012. Anna made her ODI debut against England and made an immediate impact by scoring 33 runs down the order.
The 31-year-old’s most memorable performance came in 2017 when she became the first woman cricketer from New Zealand to take a hat-trick in T20Is.
White Ferns head coach Bob Carter said Anna is a handy all-round cricketer and Auckland Hearts will benefit from his presence.
