New type of corona case: Assam’s female doctor infected with two variants of corona; had taken both doses of the vaccine

A female doctor has been found infected with two variants (alpha and delta) of corona in Dibrugarh, Assam. The special thing is that she had got both doses of the vaccine. Dr. BJ Borkakoti, Senior Scientist, Regional Medical Research Center Dibrugarh has given this information.

Dr. Borkakoti told that double infection is similar to any other mono-infection. It is not that double infection will make the disease serious. We are monitoring the case for a month. He is absolutely fine. There is no such thing as worry.

How does double infection happen?
Dr. Borkakoti said that double infection occurs when two variants infect a person simultaneously or in a very short time. It takes 2-3 days for antibodies to form after infection, but sometimes both variants become active within it. Earlier such cases have been reported in Britain, Brazil and Portugal. This may be the first case in India.

Simultaneous transition from Lineage A+B is not common: Dr. Anurag Agarwal
The husband of the female doctor was also infected with the alpha variant. Dr Anurag Agarwal, Director, CSIR-IGIB in Delhi said that it is quite common to be infected with lineage A and reinfection with lineage B, but some cases of simultaneous infection with lineage A + B have also been found.

Delta variant cases found after assembly elections
In Assam, around February-March this year, most of the corona cases in the initial phase of the second wave in Assam were of the alpha variant. Then after the assembly elections in April, cases of the delta variant started coming to the fore. Corona cases are increasing in the north-eastern states these days. More than 6,500 cases were found in Assam in May during the peak of the second wave. On Monday, 1,797 new cases were reported.

At present 17,454 active cases in Assam
According to the Union Health Ministry, there are currently 17,454 active cases in the state. So far 5,26,607 have been cured and 5,019 have died. A total of 89,40,107 doses of corona vaccines have been given here so far, including 73,82,885 first and 15,57,222 second doses.
