Collector Dr Manik Gursal has ordered his team to find land for an independent cremation ground for the transgender community and prepare for its construction.

Setting a unique example, Palghar district administration has decided to build a separate cremation ground for the transgender community. Let us inform that in many cities of the state, there was a demand for a separate cremation ground by this community, which was first accepted by the Palghar district administration.

Collector Dr Manik Gursal has ordered his team to find land for an independent cremation ground for the transgender community and prepare for its construction. He has said that the people belonging to this community should not face any kind of problem, so we have taken this decision. He said that the transgender community should not be isolated from others in the society. He assured that they would be given requisite benefits in many government schemes.

Transgender will get separate identity card
Gursal said that soon an identity card would be issued to the transgender community so that they could get proper benefits. Its process has started. Sub-divisional officer Asima Mittal said that they have recently given identity cards to 30 transgender people in Dahanu taluka of the district, there are more than 100 transgenders in the district and soon all of them will be given ID cards.

Decision to give legal aid to transgender community for free
State’s first transgender lawyer Pawan Yadav (30) has vowed to provide free legal aid to the community. Yadav lives with parents in Goregaon, Mumbai. Earlier in 2018, Satyashree Sharmila was India’s first transgender lawyer.
