Network of Ties: In line with PM Modi’s vision, ICCR to launch India Alumni Portal for foreign students

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations is launching an India Alumni Portal on Saturday at the ICCR Headquarters as a platform to connect with foreign students from across the world studying in India. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will address the event with a video message, while his junior minister Meenakshi Lekhi will launch the portal in the presence of ICCR President Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe.

Many students studying in India are in senior positions in their own countries or in influential global roles and are contributing in spreading the positive message about India and connecting the soft power of the country globally. In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently emphasized on building an effective ICCR India alumni network and keeping them updated and connected with a dynamic India.

This is in line with Prime Minister Modi’s vision that ICCR has developed the India Alumni Portal (www.iccr.almaconnect.com) with an aim to connect all foreign scholars studying in India, including ICCR scholars, Who can be the best ambassador of India, who can offer invaluable. Soft projection in his personal and professional life.

The portal should be a single platform for all past and present foreign scholars to register, interact, maintain their Indian ties and anchor in India. It will also facilitate continuity and re-engagement with many past scholars and provide a platform for all past and present scholars to register, interact, share interactions and contribute. Indian missions abroad will also use these contacts in different ways.

As part of the development of the portal and to engage the alumni in the best possible ways, Indian missions abroad will form alumni associations in their recognized countries and observe an Alumni Day. Other activities will include inviting Alumni Association members to meet visiting Indian dignitaries in that country and providing information regarding ICCR scholarship facility through Alumni.

ICCR has been offering scholarships to foreign students for the past 40 years and now, through the portal, the organization hopes to become an important platform for cultural ambassadors of India. It is estimated that ICCR alumni are around 30,000 strong and hence, the portal will facilitate re-engagement with past scholars.

In line with the launch of the Alumni Portal, ICCR organized a competition to design a logo for the portal. It was open to Indian as well as foreign students studying in India. The winning logo will be displayed on the portal along with the logo of ICCR.
