NepalTwo people have died and 26 others are missing in monsoon-triggered floods and landslides in Nepal. Officials gave this information on Sunday.

One person working at the under-construction Super Hewa hydroelectric project in Chainpur Municipality-4 was killed and 21 others went missing, the Kathmandu Post newspaper quoted police officials as saying.

The report said that Deputy Superintendent of Police Birender Godar said that it was not yet known whether the laborers had moved to a safer place after the flood or were washed away in the Hewa river. A 9-year-old girl died after a house was washed away in a landslide in neighboring Panchthar district.

Police said that five villagers of Chainpur have also gone missing after the floods in the area. The report states that preliminary investigation suggests that the river was blocked after landslides in Chainpur Municipality-4 and Panchkhapan Municipality-9.

Weather forecasters have warned that heavy rains will continue in Nepal in the coming days, and have issued alerts as water levels in rivers rise. Nepal is at the beginning of its monsoon season, which usually starts in June and ends in October.
