The Home Ministry on Saturday claimed that the news circulating on social media about the destruction and vandalism of a mosque in Tripura is fake and a complete misrepresentation of facts. It also said that there is no report of simple or grievous injury or rape or death of any person in any such incident in Tripura as alleged in some social media posts.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in a strongly worded statement said, “No case of damage to any mosque structure has been reported in Tripura in the recent past and people should remain calm and not be misled by such fakes. Report.”

It further said, “There have been reports which are circulating that a mosque has been damaged and demolished in Kakraban area of ​​Gomti district in Tripura. These news reports are fake and completely misrepresentation of facts.”

The home ministry said there was no damage to the mosque in Dargabazar area of ​​Kakraban and Tripura police in Gomati district was working to maintain peace.

The Home Ministry said that in Maharashtra, there have been reports of violence and objectionable statements aimed at disturbing peace and harmony on the basis of fake news about Tripura.

“This is very worrying and it is urged that peace be maintained at all costs,” it said. The Home Ministry clarified that no case of damage to any mosque structure has been reported in Tripura in the recent past.

Violence in Tripura, Maharashtra

Violence has erupted in parts of Maharashtra following rallies by Muslim organizations on Friday to protest the incidents in Tripura.

In Amaravati, over 8,000 people gathered outside the district collector’s office on Friday to submit a memorandum demanding that atrocities against the minority community in Tripura be stopped. Violence was reported in Amravati, Nanded, Malegaon, Washim and Yavatmal.

In connection with Friday’s incidents, the police have so far arrested 20 people and detained four others on various charges including rioting.

Cyber ​​cell issued alert

The Cyber ​​Cell of Mumbai Police on Saturday issued an alert warning against making and/or sharing provocative posts regarding violent incidents on social media.

“Many provocative posts containing fake news are being circulated on social media platforms related to the recent incidents of violence in Maharashtra. Sharing or forwarding of such posts is prohibited. Also, it is advised that such posts are not shared. The social media accounts posting to should be reported.” , read the order.

It further states that strict action will be taken against those posting such posts and spreading anarchy in the society.
