As per the news rules, OCI medical candidates can now apply for admission to all undergraduate (UG) medical programs in India, subject to the rules issued by the authorities.

National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an important notice for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) candidates belonging to the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) category. Now, OCI medical candidates can now apply for admission to all Undergraduate (UG) medical programs in India, subject to the regulations issued by the authorities.

“An Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) shall be eligible for admission to undergraduate Medical / Dental / Ayurveda / Unani / Siddha / Homeopathy programs in India subject to the rules / regulations / notifications issued from time to time by the concerned regulatory body or counseling authority/admitting authority in consonance with the policy decision of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and/or Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA),” reads the official notice.

OCI cardholders were earlier allowed entry for only one Non-Resident Indian (NRI) seat or a supernumerary seat. The latest order comes after the Supreme Court’s decision in a related matter. The existing provision for OCI students as provided in the NEET UG 2023 Information Bulletin mentions that these candidates will be treated as foreigners and will not be eligible for seats reserved for Indian nationals including seats in paid deemed colleges.

Meanwhile, NEET UG 2023 registration is currently underway, and candidates can submit their application forms till 11:50 pm on April 6. Interested candidates can apply for NEET UG 2023 exam at neet.nta.nic.in. As per the schedule, the exam will be conducted on May 7 at various exam centers across India.

NEET UG 2023 registration fee has been increased this year. Last year also it was extended to all categories. This year it is Rs 1700 for general category. Last year it was increased from Rs 1500 to Rs 1600. This year the fee for EWS and OBC-NCL category is Rs 1600. Last year it increased from Rs 1,400 to Rs 1,500. It is Rs 1000 for candidates belonging to SC, ST, PWD and third gender category. It was increased from Rs 700 to Rs 800 in 2022.
